Omar Fayad Net Worth: Omar Fayad Meneses (born 26 August 1962) is a Mexican politician from the state of Hidalgo who has served as a congressman and federal senator. He served as governor of Hidalgo from 2016 to 2022. He is the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s member.
Omar Fayad Political Career
In 1985, Omar Fayad graduated in law from UNAM. After graduation, he worked in the Mexican Attorney General’s office for several years. In 1989, he joined the National Institute of Criminal Sciences (INACIPE) and later worked in the State of Hidalgo in various educational positions. From 1996 to 1998, he was Secretary of Public Education and Attorney General of Hidalgo. He later worked as police commissioner and customs administrator, as well as held other public safety and security positions. He also frequently appeared on radio programs as a political analyst.
Fayad was elected as a federal deputy in the LVIII Legislature in 2000, serving as secretary of the Special Commission on Public Security and the Commission on Communications, Government and Public Security. In April 2003, he resigned as secretary.
After his brief stint in Congress, Fayad returned to the Hidalgo State government, serving as Secretary of Agriculture (2003-05) and Secretary of Social Development (2005-06). In 2006 he ran for and won the office of President of the city of Pachuca. During his term as mayor, he chaired the Mexican Mayors’ Association.
Fayad returned to Congress in 2009 as parliamentary secretary of the Commission for the Strengthening of Federalism.
He ran and won the nomination for senator three years later and served in the LXII and LXIII Legislature. He was a member of many committees, including the Public Security Commission, which he chaired.

Fayad was also elected leader of Hidalgo’s Institutional Revolutionary Party in 2010. In October 2015, Fayad tried to draft a new law against cybercrime that would also criminalize freedom of expression, but he received much criticism. One group called it ‘the worst Internet law in history.
Fayad resigned from the Senate on 2 February 2016 to run for governor of Hidalgo as the PRI candidate.
Later that year, he won the gubernatorial election and was sworn in as governor on 5 September 2016.
